Alcohol acts as a disinfectant in the gut and can really upset your microbiome which is there to offer protection and support immunity.

Alcohol, can overwhelm the gastrointestinal tract. It kills many of the beneficial bacteria that live in the intestines and this will reduce your immune resilience since 70-80% of your immune cells reside in the gut membrane. Our body needs these bacteria as they support a healthy gut microbiome and many additional critical processes.

Alcohol intake can lead to changes in gut microbiota composition, even before liver disease development. These alterations worsen with advancing disease and could be complicit in disease progression.
