Supporting the Terrain

Conduct a full environmental cleanse – alcohol, caffeine, improve water and air quality, cosmetic and cleaning products.
See how many of these you can review and potentially improve on at home when moving on from the programme. Your body will thank you!

✓ Invest in a good quality water filter if possible.
✓ Address any damp or mould in your environment.
✓ Avoid formaldehyde – off gassing from new carpets, pressed wood products, resins, latex, noiron clothes and scented candles.
✓ Quit smoking and also consider fumes from paints, cleaning products, tobacco smoke, combustion products from heaters and cookers.
✓ Clean with hot water, vinegar and bicarb to reduce chemical load.
✓ Clothes matter too: Natural fibres generally better than synthetics. Be aware of the chemicals on clothes – wash before wearing new clothing or even better, buy second hand.
✓ Open windows regularly rather than relying on air fresheners. Consider investing in an air filter.
✓ Avoid anti-perspirants.
✓ Get houseplants, especially Ivy, Peace lily, Rubber plant, Spider plant, Bamboo palm, Variegated snake plant. They absorb some noxious gases (benzene, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and formaldehyde) (Cregan-Reid, 2018; Gubb, 2022; Sharma, 2022), they also humidify the air, break down mould spores and reduce dust levels by 40%.
✓ Regular sauna or far infrared sauna. Alternatively, a hot bath to sweat with magnesium salts and shower afterwards.
✓ Minimise exposure to Wi-Fi – activate airplane mode, keep a distance from your body, use ethernet adaptors wherever possible. Use headphones – always!
✓ Shower or bathe before bedtime – rinses away allergens and toxins that may have settle on your hair or clothes.

Nutrition
✓ Organic, colourful, wholefood diet.
✓ Grass-fed meat and wild fish.
✓ Avoid excessive rice and fish intake.
✓ Support detoxification pathways – alliums, bitter plants, cruciferous, turmeric, green tea, pomegranates etc.
✓ Reduce intake of AGE’s fried & junk food, crisps and baked crackers.
✓ Reduce aflatoxin containing foods.
✓ Learn healthy cooking techniques – braising, poaching, slow-cooking.
✓ For the occasional BBQ – reduce PAHs by 89% by minimising smoke and quickly removing drippings. (Lee, 2016)
✓ Avoid non-stick pans and plastic packaging.
✓ Glass jars rather than tin cans.
✓ Fast as part of your weekly routine.

Creative Reinvention
✓ Alternating hot and cold water drives blood flow to internal organs, resulting in greatly enhanced circulation and detoxification.
✓ Grow your own! Even if only a herb garden.
✓ Focus on what you CAN control!
✓ 20% change for 80% difference.
✓ 30 minutes of movement daily: dance, skip, cycle, swim, shake!

Those interested in testing

  • Genetic testing indicates whether a client is predisposed to slower or faster detoxification, while functional testing sheds light on how well their detoxification pathways are functioning and their current toxic load.
  • Urine – current toxic exposure (e.g. Viva Health offer a range of panels – Urine Toxic Element, Urine Environmental Pollutants Profile, Urine Mycotoxins or Mosaic diagnostic MycoTOX profile).
  • Whole blood – increased or recent exposure to toxic elements (e.g. Viva Health Mineral & Toxic Elements; Blood).
  • Hair – provides a good average circulating levels during the hair growth period (typically 2-3 months) (e.g. Viva Health Toxic Element Exposure Profile; Hair).
  • Serum – e.g. immune reactivity to xenobiotic exposure (e.g. Cyrex Array 11).
